General Support of DEED

Preservation of Historic Property

On July 1, 2024, DEED will launch a $4.5 million capital campaign to expand the historic Delta Athenaeum and develop surrounding properties that comprise the Delta District. This project features mobility-friendly renovations at the Delta Athenaeum with the construction of an adjacent 4-story building to provide community space for youth programs, health/wellness activities, performance arts, workforce training, and other non-profits. The fundraising will also boost the revitalization of vacant lots in the neighborhood with new housing, retail, and social services.

The two-year Capital Campaign anticipates $3.3 million in funding from a broad coalition of donors supporting DEED’s mission of educational and economic development: city, county, state, and federal government agencies; foundations and nonprofit organizations; corporate and small businesses; and neighborhood stakeholders and individuals. With this fundraising, DEED can seek an additional $1.2 million in New Markets Tax Credit financing for neighborhood redevelopment. All are invited to support the Delta District Campaign with tax-deductible contributions, which can be pledged for payment over a 25-month period. Total contributions of at least $1,250 will qualify for special donor recognition and discounted rental rates at the Delta Athenaeum.
